Major Nintendo Switch Port Reveal Expected Next Month

Panic Button has revealed that they are working on another major port for Nintendo Switch, and expect that it will be announced next month.

The Texas-based studio has already built up a strong reputation for helping publishers to bring their games to the portable home console, having worked on Rocket League, DOOM and Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus.

Now in demand for “extremely high-profile projects,” Panic Button has spent nearly six years working with Nintendo Switch and that can now reap the benefits of that experience.

“We’ve been working on the hardware for a long time, almost six years,” Panic Button co-owner and director of development Adam Creighton explained to Variety. “That’s more than almost any third party.

“With Bethesda, between DOOM and Wolfenstein II, they’ve shown you can put these games that are triple A on the hardware. DOOM has been received very well. Zenimax is extremely happy with the external feedback.”

Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus has presented its own challenges for the developer, with Creighton adding: “We’re really pushing the engine forward and everything else. We’re trying to hold onto all of those visuals. We’re really proud with what we did.”

It runs with a variable resolution at 30 frames per second, and has motion controls that have been refined since the developer had first added them to DOOM.

Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus will release for Nintendo Switch worldwide on June 29th.
