There have been plenty of notched phones already this year with more and more Android OEMs jumping on the bandwagon as the months go by. Huawei is among a few brands that’s quite happy to adopt the notch as we have already seen it on phones like the P20-series and Nova 3-series. It now looks like the company is ready to take the trend to its Mate lineup of phablets as well. Huawei is gearing up to launch the Mate 20-series soon with the Mate 20 Lite being one of the phones in the lineup. A new set of renders have now surfaced that seemingly confirm the device will come with a display cutout.
Winfuture’s Roland Quandt is back after a successful outing of the P20 phones and has now revealed some renders of the Mate 20 Lite alongside a bunch of details regarding its internals. As you may know, the “Lite” model is typically a stripped down version of the top-end model and so the Mate 20 Lite will also come with some mid-range specs. Before we get to the hardware, the renders reveal that the Mate 20 Lite will come with a tall edge-to-edge display with a large notch that will likely house dual front cameras and a chin on the bottom.
The renders further reveal a curved metal back with vertical dual cameras and a fingerprint sensor just below. This suggests the Mate 20 Lite will bear a total of four cameras much like last years Mate 10 Lite. As per Quandt’s report, the Mate 20 Lite will sport a 6.3-inch FHD+ display with a 2340×1080 resolution. The device will likely be powered by an octa-core Kirin 710 chipset which is based on a 12nm process and should be significantly more powerful and efficient compared to the Kirin 659 processor. All of this keeps in line with the TENAA listing that was spotted earlier this month.
The report adds that the Mate 20 Lite will come with up to 6GB of RAM and 64GB of internal storage. Quandt also details the four cameras on board, claiming that the rear two sensor will include a 20-megapixel primary and a 2-megapixel secondary, while the front will get a 24MP + 2MP configuration. The phablet will also get a pretty big 3,650mAh battery and the device itself will weigh around 172 grams.
Quandt also says, based on sources, that the Mate 20 Lite will go on sale by the end of August and will cost around $400 (approx Rs 28,000). This is a little higher than the Huawei Nova 3i that was launched with a price tag of CNY 1,999 in China and Rs 20,990 in India.
